Late 19th century wall hanging depicting Don Quixote
Late 19th century wall hanging depicting Don Quixote
Magnificent wall hanging made in the late 1800s. It has been embroidered according to the image of a painting made by Adolf Schrodter Schwedt (1805-1875) which was called “Don Quixote seated in an armchair,” made in 1834. We have been informed by the former owner, who inherited this work from his father who also inherited it from his father, that the inner part of this work dates back to 1880-1890. The old, middle part was restored in 1999 by MS. Akke Reeskamp, a Dutch artist and teacher in textile design. She also made a patchwork matching the style of the embroidery that she put on the original frame.
