Midcentury Melamine Dinnerware Set Designed by Massimo Vignelli for Heller
Dinnerware set made of melamine designed in 1964. Because of its material, compactness, stackability and looks this has become an iconic design. It is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum and the Cooper-Hewitt Museum of Modern Art.
The set consists of 17 pieces: a serving tray, 4 dinner plates, 6 side plates, 1 large bowl with lid, two small bowls with lids, 3 small without lids. This is the original version made in Italy and not the later version that was produced in the USA. The stickers ‘Made in Italy’ are still present on several pieces, also indicating that the set has rarely been used.
Massimo Vignelli (1931-2014) was of a master of simplicity using basic geometric forms.
The given dimensions apply to the whole set put together.
