Modernist Chrome Tubular Side Table E1027 by Eileen Gray for Classicon

Modernist Chrome Tubular Side Table E1027 by Eileen Gray for Classicon

The Classicon adjustable table E 1027 is a design by Eileen Gray.
Gray, originally from Ireland, is one of the pioneers of modernist architecture, including Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe and Marcel Breuer. Like them, she explored the processing and bending of steel, a material that is often reflected in her designs. The Adjustable Table is perhaps the best-known design of hers. She designed it in 1927 for her home in the South of France, which she built together with her then partner, Jean Badovici. Just like the table, the house was given the name ‘E 1027’, which is a code for the first letters of their first and last names. ‘E’ stands for Eileen, ’10’ for the letter J (10th in the alphabet), ‘2’ for the letter B and ‘7’ for the letter G.
