Modernist Folding Chair by Gerrit Rietveld for Hopmi in Red Metal and Black Wood
This piece is unmistakably a Rietveld!
In 1932 Gerrit Rietveld designed a folding chair for the Hopmi bicycle parts factory for the Vreeburg cinema in Utrecht, the cinema in the apartment above Rietveld lived with his family.
Hopmi used patented ‘torpedo nuts’ which made it easy to turn the furniture in and out into parts. Very good condition.
