Pair of Varolux Automatic Lamps by Hartmut Voigt for VEB Messgeraetewerk
“Lighting fitting with dimmer programme” says the original folder that comes with this original set of two table lamps or sconces.
They were designed by Hartmut Voigt in 1986 for East German manufacturer VEB Messgeraetewerk Erich Weinert in Magdeburg. It is a quite clever design as the lamps can be used in many ways, and also have a large variety of light intensity and direction. Quirky and fun.
“A two-piece universal fitting offers many different mounting possibilities” the folder continues.
(A) Knurling wheel as switch for automatic operation (to upper stop) and adjustor for variable permanent light brilliance (up to lower stop)
(B) Diode lights up to serve as constant orientation aide
(C) Pushbutton to start automatic dimmer programme
(D) Pushbutton to shorten the dimmer programme.
