The Party is a work Mary G. made in 2003 while she was working on her acrylic on Plastic series. This series of 10 totally different paintings depicts life in those carefree pre-crisis years of the late 1990s. This large painting (110 x 110 cms) really stands out. Not only due to the wonderful combination of colours by also by the unusual shiny background that is the plastic ‘canvas’. Mary G. (for Grooteman) took a Classic painters education (Akademie) giving her the technique to work in great realistic detail. Mary G. lives and works in one of Amsterdams cool hipster areas : De Pijp.
