The Real Estate Agent is a work Mary G. made in 2000 while she was working on her Acrylic on Plastic series. This series of 10 totally different paintings depicts life in those carefree pre-crisis years of the late nineties.
This large painting (130 x 110 cms) really stands out. Not only due to the wonderful combination of colors by also by the unusual shiny background that is the plastic ‘canvas’.
The Real Estate Agent had become a very important person in Amsterdam at the end of the 1990s as he or she was the one deciding wether you would find a great place or a dump. He was one in charge as he had his contacts. This painting of a real estate agent humouristically paints a picture of a man in a suit that is too wide to be fashionable who still pretends to know everything about the latest style.

Mary G. (for Grooteman) took a classic painters education (Akademie) giving her the technique to work in great realistic detail. Mary G. lives and works in one of Amsterdams cool hipster areas : De Pijp.
